There was no need for Mackenzie to worry or feel guilty for making him feel uncomfortable. It wasn’t her fault at all. He liked that she was being well…who she was. She didn’t have to pretend to be someone else just to impress him. Andrew was the one who had stupidly reached out to touch her knowing that physical contact always seemed to bring those dark thoughts back to him. He wasn’t allowed to grow comfortable in another’s presence. It was a rule he had made for himself the day he had buried his wife. He didn’t know this girl but he was going to have to get used to her. “Of course.” He mumbled, capturing his bottom lip in between his teeth as both females used those pouty puppy dog eyes to weaken him. He really needed to build up some immunity towards those faces before it ended with him being walked all over. The mention of the missus had Andrew lowering his head again. The weight of the ring on his finger feeling as if it were burning right into his flesh. He should probably tell her now. Rip off that Band-Aid instead of waiting down the line. Mackenzie would notice eventually the lack of another female presence in his life and if not there was always the chance that Gracie might bring it up. “T-There is no Missus..”

HAVE SOME COMPOSURE!
WHERE IS YOUR POSTURE?!
when her phone rang, she growled, struggling to pull the buzzing machine out of her pocket with gracie still on her lap. finally, she got it, and sighed at the name on the screen. "hello mrs garcia! yes, everything is fine. oh, she did? i'm sorry, thank you for calling. i'll sort it out when i get home. yes, i'll bring some more of the cookies round when i get home, i'm making a batch later. thank you, bye!" she sighed as she hung up. mrs garcia was the downstairs neighbor, and she'd taken to calling if mackenzie was out and she could hear hunter having a scene upstairs. it was difficult for mackenzie, and she was grateful to the lady for getting in touch. hunter never told her that these things, drifting off into her own little world, and kenzie was none the wise. "sorry, my neighbor. just calling about hunter." she blushed, slightly ashamed, but also, defensive, about her baby sister
laughing up at him, she leaned over and pulled his cheeks up to make him smile. "don't sound too enthusiastic!" giggling, she smiled down at the girl in her lap. "so, what park do you go to? you'll have to show me so i can take you when daddy is at work!" reaching around the girl, she finished off her coffee, feeling more relaxed, and less tense now that both andrew and gracie seemed, okay, with her, and she's had enough caffeine in her to wake her up.
her eyes widened and she clasped her hands over her mouth. 'ooohhh shit' she thought, berating herself. 'dammit kenzie! foot in mouth once again!' she stuttered and stumbled her way through an apology, her hands moving nervously in front of her. did she leave him? divorce? or maybe it wasn't a wedding ring? ...but it was on that finger and... "i'm sooo sorry!! i just assumed when i saw the ring and i..erm, ugh. shit."

Andrew was about to take a drink of his rapidly cooling coffee when Mackenzie’s phone suddenly went off, causing him to jump and very nearly spill the entire thing in his lap. He composed himself quickly, becoming very interested in the happenings going on at the register so as not to appear as if he were listening in on her phone conversation. Who was this Hunter? A child? Or maybe a pet of hers? Either way her tone was on the defensive side. “I hope everything is alright.” He spoke politely. The touch to his cheeks as she forcibly pulled up a smile had his face in flames again and he backed away shyly, brushing off her tease with a shrug of his shoulders. ”Not the baby park. I wanna go to the big girl park!” Gracie announced. In the two weeks that they had been in town she had already tired of the rusted play set their building provided. They had yet to actually go on a hunt for another. “It’s quite alright.” Andrew sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “Since it looks like you will be around for awhile then I think you should know..” He trailed off, finishing his coffee and chewing on his bottom lip for a brief time before continuing. “My wife…Gracie’s mother…she passed away last Thanksgiving…”
